For Donors

Donor Privacy & Refund Policy

Our commitments to the people who support our work.

Effective and last updated September 23, 2026

Our Commitment to Donors

  • We never sell, rent, trade or share donor names or contact details with other organizations.
  • You may give anonymously, and we will honor that request in anything we publish.
  • Every online gift receives an emailed receipt that serves as your written acknowledgment for tax purposes.
  • If you made a mistake with a gift, contact us within 30 days and we will make it right.

Donor privacy

When you give, we receive the information described in our Privacy Policy: your name, email address, gift amount and date, and any address, dedication, comment or anonymity preference you provide. We use it only to process and acknowledge your gift, keep required financial records, thank you, and, unless you ask us not to, send occasional updates about our work.

Donor information is available only to the CBT directors and service providers who need it, and is kept confidential except where disclosure is required by law, such as confidential reporting to the Internal Revenue Service.

Giving anonymously

To remain anonymous, select the anonymous option on the Givebutter donation form or email info@californiabrewerytourism.org. We will not publish your name in donor lists, reports or other public materials. We still keep a private record of your gift as the law requires.

Opting out of communications

You can stop receiving updates from us at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any message or by emailing info@californiabrewerytourism.org. You will still receive receipts for any gifts you make.

Tax receipts and acknowledgments

California Brewery Tourism is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, EIN 41-4777927. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Givebutter emails a receipt for every online gift showing our legal name, the date and amount of the contribution, and a statement that no goods or services were provided in exchange for it unless stated at the time of the gift. For gifts of $250 or more, this receipt is the written acknowledgment required by the IRS. If you need a replacement receipt or a year-end summary, email info@californiabrewerytourism.org.

If you choose to add an optional tip on a Givebutter form, the tip goes to Givebutter to support its platform. It is not a donation to California Brewery Tourism and is not included in your tax receipt from us. Questions about tips should go to Givebutter.

Refunds

Gifts are generally final. However, if a donation was made in error — for example, a wrong amount or a duplicate charge — email info@californiabrewerytourism.org within 30 days of the gift with your name, the date and the amount. We will review the request and, where appropriate, refund the gift to the original payment method. A refunded gift is not tax-deductible, and we will void or reissue your receipt to match.

Please contact us before disputing a charge with your card issuer. We can usually resolve errors quickly, and chargebacks carry fees that reduce the funds available for our programs.

How gifts are used

Gifts to a specific campaign, such as Tap Into California, are used for that program. If a campaign raises more than it needs, or a program cannot go ahead as planned, the funds will be used for closely related work within our charitable mission. General gifts support our mission wherever the need is greatest.

Other ways to give
