Privacy Policy

Who we are

This Privacy Policy explains how California Brewery Tourism (“CBT,” “we,” “us”), a California nonprofit public benefit corporation and 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, collects, uses and shares personal information through californiabrewerytourism.org (the “site”) and related donation pages. It is posted in accordance with the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA).

Information we collect

Information you give us

• Contact form. Your name, email address, phone number (optional), subject and message.
• Email and correspondence. Whatever you choose to include when you write to us.
• Donations. When you give through our Givebutter pages, Givebutter collects your payment details and shares with us your name, email address, gift amount and date, and any mailing address, dedication, comment or anonymity preference you provide. We do not receive your full card or bank account number.

Information collected automatically

• Server and security data. Our website host, Cloudflare, processes technical information such as IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the date and time of each request, in order to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary security cookies for that purpose.
• Fonts. The site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, so your browser sends your IP address and browser information to Google when you visit.
• We do not currently use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. If we add privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics in the future, we will update this policy first.

How we use information

• To answer your messages and requests.
• To process donations, issue tax receipts and written acknowledgments, and keep the financial records a nonprofit is required to keep.
• To thank donors and, where you have not opted out, share occasional updates about our programs.
• To operate, secure and improve the site.
• To comply with the law, including tax, charitable-registration and audit requirements.

How we share information

We do not sell, rent, trade or otherwise share personal information for anyone else’s marketing. We share it only with service providers who help us run the organization, and only as needed for them to do so:

• Givebutter — donation processing and receipts.
• FormSubmit — delivers contact-form messages to our inbox.
• Google Workspace — our email and document storage.
• Cloudflare — website hosting and security.
• Our bank, accountants, auditors and legal advisers, where needed for their work.

We may also disclose information when required by law, such as in response to a valid legal request or for required tax reporting.

Donor privacy

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

We do not track visitors across other websites over time, and we do not allow third parties to do so through our site. Because of that, the site works the same way whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal.

How long we keep information

We keep donation and financial records for as long as required for tax, audit and charitable-registration purposes, generally at least seven years. We keep contact messages only as long as needed to respond and for reasonable record-keeping.

Security

The site is served only over encrypted HTTPS connections, and we limit access to personal information to the directors and service providers who need it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect the information we hold.

Children

The site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Programs or events involving the tasting of alcoholic beverages are open only to people of legal drinking age. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Your choices and rights

• You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to stop sending you updates, by writing to info@californiabrewerytourism.org. We may need to keep certain donation records where the law requires it.
• California residents may ask whether we have shared personal information with third parties for their direct-marketing purposes (California Civil Code § 1798.83). We do not share information for that purpose.

Links to other websites

The site links to other websites, including Givebutter, Open Brewery DB and Wikimedia Commons. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the updated version on this page and revise the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will also note it on our home page.
